Tuning and Repair

When it comes to tuning I will give your piano the time and attention it needs to achieve the best possible result, be it a Victorian wooden framed instrument or a full size grand in a concert hall. I therefore limit my appointments mostly to just three a day spending between one and two hours on average.

My restoration and piano manufacturing qualifications mean I am familiar with all aspects of repair and regulation and I carry the specialist tools and materials for most jobs with me on the road. Even full restrings can be performed on-site negating the need for costly removals.

I also offer friendly advice on how best to care for your instrument, its value for insurance purposes and help with buying, selling and transportation if necessary.

Please contact me if your piano needs attention; the map on the information page shows the areas that I regularly visit.

Full or Partial Rebuilds

Restoring pianos is my true passion.

The workshop is set up on two floors to accommodate the three main aspects of contemporary piano restoration: Action and keyboard rebuilds; Strungback refurbishment (strings, frame and soundboard) and Cabinet restoration from joinery and veneering to hand french-polishing.

I work to a very high standard and am pleased to offer a ten year guarantee with all rebuilds.

Period Restorations

Over the last few decades the rules and methods of period-piece restorations have changed no end for the better. More and more information has been documented over the years making research a large and crucial part of any project.

Through a specialist network of revered instrument makers and technicians I am able to participate in the ongoing debates surrounding best practice, source the best available materials and access technical drawings and information essential for an authentic end result.

If you have a stringed keyboard instrument older than 175 years that requires major work please contact me to arrange a consultation.
